The Statue of Liberty

Each year, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW gather at the Statue of Liberty on October 28 to commemorate the anniversary of the Statues Dedication. The tradition started in 1936, when the Auxiliary held it's first birthday party.

Each year the Ladies Auxiliary presents gifts ranging from $3,500 for a grove of trees honoring those who died on 9/11 to $20,000 for a virtual reality climb to the top of the Statue. In 1986 when the Statue of Liberty turned 100 years old: the Auxiliary contributed $221,000 to the statue's restoration and held it's 50th annual Birthday Celebration at the statues base.
